Walt ran me into the ground, it mattered not that he was 11 years older than me, our 16 mile runs would turn into hotly competitive and grueling contests. He would never even let on that he was tiring,Walt would entertain me, educate me and make me a better athlete.

14 years ago I walked in to Dr. Daniell's office never expecting to find the most kindest doctor I had ever known... His caring way of dealing with me was unheard of.. He sat and listened to what I had to say and even saw through to my soul. What a kind and caring man he was. He was a blessing from heaven above, I will forever be indebted to him for all the things he did for me during a very difficult time in my life. May you rest in peace my dear Dr. Daniell

I met Walter several years ago. He told me that he disliked teenagers (me being an 16 year old exchange student), but he opened up his warm heart and welcomed me in his home. I became a part of the family and will always be thankful to the whole family.

Dr. Daniell was my doctor and friend for many years. He delivered two of my daughters who are now 23 and 25. What a wonderful man with a kind heart!

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Daniell in the Operating Room at WBAMC as a young OR Tech. Years later I managed to meet Walt and Pat in my place of business...and as always...he was a pleasure to speak with. Dr. Daniell was the epitome of the Physician and he abided by the Oath. I am saddened to know such a fine man is gone.

Dr. Daniell was my MOST FAVORITE Doctor. He delivered my daughter and son. I always enjoyed talking to him during a most uncomfortable time. The ocean, snorkeling and scuba diving was our common conversation. I loved the time when he decided to let his beard and hair grow out.He looked like a mountain man. Walter 'Doc' Charles Daniell, September 14, 1944 - January 9, 2010. Walter, Walt, Dad, 'Doc' was born in Phoenix AZ to Levora Eagar and Charles Butler Daniell. He graduated from the University of Arizona and was a lifetime Wildcat fan and longtime booster. He received his M.D. from the University of Colorado at Denver, and entered the Army as a physician, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Initially stationed in Honolulu, a transfer to Beaumont Army Hospital brought him to El Paso in1975. He established an active obstetrics and gynecology practice in El Paso, and for 25 years delivered many thousands of babies. As a volunteer at the Newark Methodist Maternity Hospital in the 1980s, he provided free medical and birthing care. Walt was a doctor to his core, and he sacrificed greatly to help others in and out of the hospital. He was an avid runner, and completed numerous marathons, ultra-marathons, and triathlons. He was deeply involved in swimming as an athlete, an official, and supportive parent, even acting as the team doctor for the Fort Bliss Sand Sharks and Water Ranch swim teams. Walt was tremendously generous with his time, money, and love and was a father figure and mentor to many. He had a big heart, brilliant mind, kind soul, and a charming, warm, and infectious smile. Walt always abided by his principles and he loved to debate and discuss politics and current events with family and friends. Walt is survived by his wife Pat Conn, brother Malcolm Daniell, sister Sheridan Smith, children Heidi Gerton (Jason Henderson), Stephanie Whitwell (Jason), Bill Daniell (Shelley), Jordan Gerton (Brenda Mann), Chuck Daniell, Christopher Harmes (Katie), grandchildren Juaquin, Nathan, Hailey, Tanner, Cameron, Marina, Kai, Callum, and Sada, and beloved pets Scooter, Rupert, Rick, and Bubba. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, first wife Sherry Sheffield, and son-in-law Chad Vojtas. He loved his family tremendously and we will forever love him in return. We are deeply grateful to the staff at Providence Memorial Hospital, particularly his nurses, Miguel and Robert, and doctors in the ICU ward. An open house in celebration of his life will be held at Walt and Pat's home on Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
